BIG STITCHED TOGETHER STILL LIFE
THE MOTIF & REFERENCE MATERIALS:
Been slowly collecting observational “data” from my studio windowsill that sits in front of a window
I then started stitching together various angles/views through Xerox collage.
1ST PASS: YELLOW VIOLET CHUNKY BLOCK IN:
24” x 40” Diptych
Pigments used for initial temp block-in: Mixed yellow (Mars yellow + transparent orange) + Dioxazine Purple
I have all my data to look at while I begin blocking in. Each piece of data offers me different information on form, color, value etc. Hoping to create an amalgamation of all those different experiences in this one painting. I also have my actual still life on my windowsill to my left in case I need more direct observation moments. General temp structure as of now is cool light/warm shadows
2ND PASS AND BEYOND…
The sped-up studio video below shows the MANY starts and stops of my current studio painting. Filled with lots of baby bouncing, and even more interruptions, some external and even more internal. She has been one of those paintings that has really dredged some things up for me…or perhaps life is doing that, and the painting is just bearing witness.
She keeps me coming back, teaching me how to be at peace with myself, how to hold the interruptions, how to remain open and searching.
Studio VIBES:
75 min sped up video with subtitles
NO AUDIO
Where the painting is at currently. Still very much a work in progress. She is a real weirdo that has been stumping me HARD. What finally opened it back up for me was taking the individual canvases back over to my windowsill and getting more from direct observation. Once I got more information, I finally felt like I could start to play a bit.
Always oscillating open….closed….open again
Excited and nervous to see where she will take me next!
